Traineeships

What are Traineeships?

Traineeships are employment based training programs that are conducted over a period of time (generally for 12 to 24 months) allowing participants that are employed either part time or full time to progress through accredited training and assessment activities to achieve a nationally recognised qualification.

Traineeships are also available to School Students who wish to undertake structured learning and employment as part of their Yr 11 and 12 Studies.

How does it happen?

Traineeships

Both parties (employer and employee) sign a Training Contract with the assistance of an Australian Apprenticeship Centre (ACC).  At this induction the ACC will

The Training Contract is then processed by the ACC on behalf of Department of Employment, Training and the Arts (DETA) for registration of the Training Contract, and Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) for issuing of Training Incentives.

How is the training completed?

A Registered Training Organisation (RTO) - Melissa Mahoney Legal College is engaged and a Training Plan is developed.  The Training Plan incorporates competencies that are integrated into organisational priorities to ensure the learning is relevant to the workplace.  Training plans also include timeframes for achievement of competencies but also take into consideration the trainee’s prior skills and knowledge.

Trainees then work through online resources, access practical work experience and assessment.  This is completed within designated work times negotiated with the employer.

There are four quarterly reviews to be completed with the RTO (MM Legal College) that incorporate the signing off of workplace competencies.

How long does it take?

The Certificate III in Business Administration (Legal) has a nominal duration of 12 months for completion (for full time staff, pro rata for part time), but can be completed earlier due to the nature of Competency Based Training.

The Certificate IV in Legal Services is a nominal 24 month training program and is available to new and existing workers

Training Incentives

Employers may be eligible for up to $4000 per trainee signed into a traineeship. (Additional incentives are available for employment of School Based Trainees)

Training Incentives for Certificate III in Business Administration (Legal) applies to

Training incentives for the Certificate IV in Legal Services apply to

Please note: - An estimate of incentives is available prior to signup from AAC (Australian Apprenticeship Centre).

What if I change my mind?

Traineeships incorporate a cooling off period for one month from the agreed date the traineeship commenced for both parties.  If both parties agree to a termination of the contract it maybe cancelled outside of this period by mutual consent.
